I downloaded a trading app that turned out to be a complete fake. The charts were fiction and my $55,000 was never invested in anything real.
Retraced Partners traced my deposits to the payment processors behind the app and recovered $42,000 through chargebacks. The initial 'welcome bonus' portion, which the scammers structured to be clawed back, was lost.
Getting $42,000 back from what I assumed was a total loss was a huge relief. I've been far more careful about which apps I trust with money since.
